Chris Brown Mixtapes - The Early Years

Today, Chris Brown mixtapes are among some of the most in demand recordings in the world of hip hop. However, just like every other big star, Chris Brown had to make the right connections and get a few lucky breaks in order to achieve his superstar status. There were a few setbacks in the beginning, but he continued to persevere and, in the end, it paid off.
Christopher Maurice Brown was born in May of 1989 in a small Virginia town. He was raised in a very typical family, with parents who worked as a day care director and a corrections officer. He was raised on soul music, but he eventually found the hip hop music that would inspire future Chris Brown mixtapes.
Chris Brown grew up watching Michael Jackson and taught himself to sing and dance by replicating the moves and sounds of the superstar singer. After he honed his skills at home, he began performing at his church and in local talent competitions. When his mother saw him mimicking an Usher song, she knew he had something special and began looking for a record deal so that her son could record a new mixtape.
When he was only thirteen years old, Brown was singing at his father's gas station and caught the attention of local producers. They were very impressed and soon moved him to New York, where he auditioned for Island Def Jam Records. He nailed the audition and the label signed him on the very same day. This is the humble beginning that would later turn Chris into a superstar.
While recording Chris Brown mixtapes and negotiating his contract, Brown learned that Tina Davis, the Island Def Jam executive who discovered him, was laid off. He decided to stick with her and offered her a job as his manager. She accepted and the two began exploring options with other record labels such as Warner Brothers and Jive.
