In an industry that is so saturated with talented female singers, it is difficult to imagine how anyone manages to make a name for themselves. However, Ciara mixtapes have helped catapult the young singer and songwriter to super stardom. Although she is exceptionally talented, Ciara had to work very hard to get herself a spot as one of the most in-demand hip hop singers in the business.
Ciara Princess Harris was born in 1985 in Austin, Texas. Her father was in the military and, as a result, the family moved around quite often while she was growing up, including spending a period of time living in Germany. Although moving around often was difficult, Ciara later said that it helped prepare her for all of the traveling that is required of someone in the music business if they wanted to have a successful career.
As a young teenager, Ciara listened to acts such as Destiny's Child and Michael Jackson and soon found herself inspired to make the first Ciara mixtapes. She started her own girl group when she was just a young girl, called Hearsay. The group recorded a few new mixtapes but soon broke up because the girls were having personal difference.
Since her career as a performer seemed to be at a standstill, Ciara decided to cash in on her other talent, which was songwriting. While she was still in high school, she signed a publishing deal and scored her first hit with the Fantasia Barrino record "Got Me Waiting." While she was writing, she met producer Jazze Pha and recorded four Ciara mixtapes, including her hit song "1, 2, Step."
Although her music career kept her quite busy, Ciara did graduate from high school in 2003. Soon after graduation, she signed a record deal with LaFace Records as a result of connections she gained through Jazze Pha. She recorded several new hip hop songs, including her first big hit as a performer, "Goodies" with rapper Lil John.
